Everybody who hates Wayne Green can flame me to death, but please do so
by e-mail.
73 has fairly regular coverage of microwave activity. It isn't the most
technical stuff out there, but it is exposure. At least the rag is trying.

Gorbachev is certainly not a Stalinist, but he is also just as certainly
NOT a Jeffersonian democrat. We should examine his motives just as coldly
as he is examining ours. --- Richard Nixon, Time, December 18, 1989.

The individual who recommended a cross band repeater for a 220/440
link had a good idea. I will try to arrange it with my friend (KA1OKQ)
to have his radio do the trick for us. The two frequencies nominated
are 223.60 (dir) and 446.6 (dir). This should take care of most interests.
BTW the person who mentioned that he had never seen a 220 radio outside
of a catalogue has just been on the wrong band all these years :-)
Also for those without radios I'll try to suggest a meeting spot and time.
Suggestions gladly accepted.

I called the Hamvention office recently, and was told that they
had LOST their P.O. Box that they have always used for registration.
Seems that a certain DARA member forgot to pay the bill, and the
box was rented to someone else. At that time they did not know what
the new box number would be, or if the old one (Box 2205) could
be recovered. They recommended sending in the registration to
the old box, prominently addressed to DAYTON HAMVENTION TICKETS,
with PLEASE FORWARD marked on the envelope.
Today in the mail I got the January CQ, and the ad in there still
has P.O. Box 2205 as the address. Also in the same day's mail I
received my registration back, with the yellow forwarding sticker
addressed to EVERYBODY'S INC. This as then crossed out, and the
whole mess was returned to me.
Anybody know what is happening here? My guess is that maybe DARA
DID get the old box back, but because I had marked PLEASE FORWARD,
that it got forwarded to the interim holders of the box.

Tad KT7H

Then, what someone needs to do is contact the Dayton Hamvention management
and try to arrange one of the meeting rooms for USENET.rec.ham-radio and
ARPA.infohams participants.

It also matters how creative the legal arguments get. Unfortunately, you
often have to be VERY creative, costing lots of $$$$'s, to protect your
rights. The same system also lets criminals off.

I suppose there are times when trial by judge might be better. Obviously
lawyers don't want experts on the jury because they can't sway them :-)

IN RESPONSE TO YOUR QUESTION ON PTT KEYING, I HAVE A KENWOOD TR-2500 AND
ITS SCHEMATIC SHOWS THAT EXTERNAL PTT IS ACTIVATED BY CONNECTING THE
"GROUND" OR RING OF THE EXGTERNAL SPEAKER JACK AND THE "GROUND" OF THE
EXTERNAL MICROPHONE JACK TOGETHER.
IT SEEMS THE "GROUND" CONNECTIONS OF THESE JACKS ARE NOT AT GROUND.
I HAVE JUST VERIFIED THAT THIS CONNECTION DOES INDEED KEY THE XMIT.

I agree. If you are the control operator of the station that is passing
USENET onto the amateur radio bands, it is YOUR responsibility in what
goes through. If profanity or business or encrypted stuff goes out over
YOUR radio, it's YOUR backside in the sling.

Yes Gary, FYI, 'dweeb' is an acronym for Dim-Witted Eastern Educated
Boor. This precisely describes the person I was referring to. If you are
offended by the tone of my posting, or the term itself, please accept my
humble apology. I'm not sure you completly understand the context of my
statements. The man in question claims to be an officer in an SWL club,
yet his knowledge of spectrum allocations and the legality of Amateur
operations in the 7.1-7.3MHz region were quite lacking. This, coupled
with a series of personal insults lead me to place the chap in the
aforementioned category.

+Let's try to be civil. Ham radio is supposed to be a
+recreation, not a religion.
I agree, but let's not be too craven regarding our right to operate in
the assigned frequency bands, eh?
